Money Conversations

My husband and I needed to have a hard conversation the other day. It was about money. Despite being enormously helped by Dave Ramsey’s concept of “nerd and free spirit” personalities when it comes to money, we still have … hard conversations. “You bought WHAT?” “How much did you pay for that?” “No, we don’t NEED to spend money on that.” Recently we came across something which would cost us a ton of money but with the hope that it would eventually be beneficial. My husband did the research to the best of his ability resulting in the general agreement that yes, we would like to do this, and yes, it would add value to our property. The final estimate was … A LOT. More than we expected. I’m not sure what happened, but there wasn’t so much conversation, just a “Yes, I am okay with doing this.” And somehow a marriage blip was avoided. Miracles never cease to amaze.

What can you do today to help a hard conversation become a helpful one with an important person in your life?
