The Ants
- How I Coach Myself

Today is Father’s Day. This is a tribute (albeit maybe an insignificant tribute) to my own knight-in-shining-armor. We had ants in the house recently. The little tiny ones that are hard to see but the movement catches the eye. They were not only on the kitchen counter for the drop of honey that didn’t get wiped up. They were on all the counters and all over the floor. With a 10-month old in the house, I actually didn’t think it surprising (who knows what was all over the floor)! But I didn’t like them and I tried hard to get rid of them. I couldn’t and I was done being sorry about getting rid of them. My knight dutifully put out the ant poison etc. etc. while I gave up. He found a nest a few days later…underneath the coffee maker. Nothing in all my years of being married and raising kids gave me any clue that ants would nest under the coffee maker. Kudos to my knight. The ants were soon gone. The lesson for me (besides all the obvious ones)? Don’t blame others for what you can’t figure out and look for the unexpected.
What unexpected place or person might bring a blessing to you today?
